Choosing an engagement ring should be exciting. It can also be surprisingly difficult once you realise quite how much there is to choose from.
Diamond or coloured gemstone? Platinum or yellow gold? Solitaire, three stone or halo? Then there is the shape of the stone itself.

For many people, the search starts with a diamond.
Our diamond engagement rings include everything from beautifully simple single stones to rings with diamond shoulders, three stone settings and more elaborate designs.
But an engagement ring certainly does not have to mean a white diamond.
Colour can completely change the personality of a ring. Deep blue sapphire engagement rings have a wonderful richness, while emerald engagement rings bring an unmistakable flash of green. Rubies offer something warmer and bolder, and we have a particular weakness for the golden colour of a beautiful yellow diamond engagement ring.
Sometimes you simply have to try them on. A ring you would never have chosen from a photograph can look quite different once it is on your hand.
Stone shape has an enormous influence on how an engagement ring looks and feels.
Oval engagement rings have become a firm favourite, with their elongated shape creating a beautifully elegant look on the hand. An emerald cut engagement ring feels altogether different, with clean lines and long facets giving it a crisp, confident appearance.
For something a little less expected, marquise, pear and other fancy cut stones can be beautiful choices.
This is also where seeing rings in person becomes particularly useful. Two diamonds of the same carat weight can have completely different proportions and presence on the hand.
A solitaire engagement ring gives the centre stone the attention. It is wonderfully simple and allows the quality and shape of the diamond or gemstone to do the talking.
A three stone engagement ring has a little more presence across the finger, while halos and diamond set shoulders can bring even more sparkle.
There is no right answer.

Platinum has a naturally white finish that works beautifully with diamonds and coloured gemstones. Yellow gold brings warmth and can completely alter the look of the same stone.
Browse our platinum engagement rings or 18ct yellow gold engagement rings, but do not be surprised if the metal you eventually choose is not the one you expected. This is another decision that often becomes much easier when you put both on.
Planning to propose without giving the game away adds another layer to the decision.
Start by looking at the jewellery your partner already wears. Are their rings simple or detailed? Do they choose yellow gold or cooler coloured metals? Do they wear delicate jewellery or pieces with more presence?

In most cases, yes. The jewellery you see in our King Street store is the jewellery you take home with you. Wedding rings are the exception. They are made to order and we hold only one size of each design in store, so those are made up in your size before you collect them.

UK delivery is free and orders are dispatched the next working day. If something is not right, you can return an online order for a refund within 14 days of receiving it, or exchange it within 30 days of dispatch, as long as it comes back to us in its original condition.

There is no amount that you should spend.
The old idea of spending a set number of months’ salary has very little relevance to how people buy engagement rings today. Decide what feels comfortable, then concentrate on finding the strongest combination of stone, craftsmanship and design within that budget.
