When you spend your days helping couples choose their wedding rings, you hear rather a lot about weddings.
Not just the rings, either.
At Hancocks Jewellers, we hear about proposals, dresses, guest lists, seating plans and, perhaps more than anything else, where everyone is getting married.
Some venues come up again and again. Others suddenly seem to be *the* place everyone wants to book. And occasionally someone tells us about somewhere that makes us think, how have we never considered getting married there before?
So, while we’re certainly not about to start moonlighting as wedding planners, we do get something of an inside track.
If you’re planning a wedding in the North West in 2027, these are some of the venues we think are well worth knowing about.
We may be slightly biased about this one.
Manchester Hall is only around five minutes from the Hancocks Jewellers store on King Street, so it feels particularly close to home.
It’s a beautiful choice if you love the idea of a proper Manchester city wedding, with impressive architecture, gorgeous interiors and plenty of grandeur, without leaving the heart of the city.
There is something rather lovely about choosing your wedding rings on King Street and knowing that, just a few minutes away, could be the place where you’ll eventually exchange them.
Perhaps that’s why Manchester Hall always makes us smile.
There are wedding venues, and then there are places that make you stop for a second and think, *you can actually get married here?*
Manchester Art Gallery is one of them.
The building is magnificent in its own right. Grand rooms, beautiful architecture and some rather spectacular surroundings make it difficult to imagine needing to do very much to make a wedding here feel special.
And just think about the photographs.
What we particularly love is the contrast. Inside, you’re in this extraordinary setting, surrounded by beautiful interiors and artworks. Then you walk outside and you’re right back in the middle of Manchester.
For a city centre wedding with a real sense of occasion, this one is very difficult to beat.
If your idea of a wedding involves disappearing somewhere beautiful for the entire celebration, Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere offers something very different from a city wedding.
The lake, gardens and large reception spaces mean you can make a real occasion of it, particularly if you’re planning a bigger guest list.
There’s also something rather appealing about having everything in one place.
Guests arrive, settle in and, for a little while at least, the outside world can wait.
For couples who want their wedding to feel less like one day and more like an entire celebration, we can absolutely see the appeal.
Now this is one your guests probably won’t see coming.
Chester Zoo offers weddings at The Square, its renovated 1930s stable block, as well as The Oakfield for a smaller celebration.
And yes, there are more than a few rather unusual neighbours.
What we like about Chester Zoo isn’t simply that it’s different. Plenty of wedding venues can claim that. It’s that you can choose somewhere genuinely unexpected without sacrificing the beautiful setting or sense of occasion you still want from a wedding.
It is certainly one way to make sure nobody forgets where you got married.
Sometimes you want to leave the city behind completely.
Abbey House Hotel & Gardens has 14 acres of grounds, with woodland and historic ruins nearby, giving couples plenty of opportunities to take the celebrations outside.
It’s the sort of setting that lends itself beautifully to a wedding where nobody is in much of a hurry.
Champagne outside, photographs in the grounds and, apparently, even a trip around them in the hotel’s wedding buggy, Herbie.
We have to admit, we rather like the sound of that.
If Jodrell Bank has ever been on your wedding wish list, 2027 might just be the year to reach for the stars.
With the site potentially closing in within the next year, this could be one of the last opportunities to say your vows somewhere that really is unlike anywhere else in the North West.
And what a place to do it.
Jodrell Bank has been at the heart of scientific discovery since the 1940s, with the unmistakable Lovell Telescope creating a backdrop that certainly won’t be mistaken for another country house wedding.
There’s something wonderfully romantic about starting married life in a place that has spent decades looking out into the universe.
So, if you’re looking for a wedding that’s a little out of this world, this might be your moment.
After all, the stars may not align again.
Well, almost.
Heron House has recently found itself with a rather grand new nickname, the ‘Number 10 of the North’. And while we can’t promise the Prime Minister will turn up to witness your vows, it does give a Manchester registry wedding a little more bragging potential.
We rather like the idea of it.
Not every wedding needs 150 guests, a country estate and a military operation of a seating plan. There is something incredibly chic about keeping things small.
A beautiful outfit, your closest people, fabulous wedding rings and a ceremony right in the heart of Manchester. Then you’re straight back out into the city for champagne, lunch and the rest of the celebrations.
And when someone asks where you got married?
“Oh, Number 10.”
We’d probably leave it a few seconds before adding “of the North”.
