Hancocks owner Roy Lunt comments on lab made and cultured gem stones in the Financial Times

Roy Lunt the owner of Hancocks Fine Jewellers in Manchester, the city’s longest established jeweller, having been in business since 1860, believes that consumers, primarily woman, will never want artificial gems. “We hold lectures on diamonds, Fabergé, crown jewels and during the discussions, we learn that ladies without exception do not want a man-made gem,” he says. “woman would rather have a small natural diamond over a cultured or lab created large gem, because cultured gives the impression it’s inexpensive or not the real thing,” he says. “There’s no kudos with a man-made thing.”
