Diamond Shapes for Fine Jewellery

When you want to purchase the perfect diamond you will want to have some education before you choose. The shape of the diamond will determine the setting you choose, and each shape has two main types. These two types are brilliant and step cut and whichever you decide on will have a bearing on the price. The step cut diamond is more likely to have inclusions that can be seen by the naked eye, so in this instance you will want to choose one with a little higher quality. The brilliant cut diamond has the brilliance of the stone to draw the eye and you won’t notice the inclusions with this type.

The brilliant diamonds will be the more common shapes in diamond jewellery such as the Round, Oval, Marquise, Radiant, Princess, Pear, Cushion and Heart Shaped. The step cut diamonds would be the Emerald cut diamond or the Asscher cut diamond. You may find that different names for the diamond shapes do exist and if you have any questions about a particular shape you can ask your fine jeweller. Some of the diamond shapes are part of a branded name and aren’t allowed to be given to just any diamond shape.

The diamond laboratory rates diamonds with a ratio table. This is done so that the beauty of the diamond jewellery can be assessed. The only shape where this is not needed is on the round brilliant cut diamond. The reason for this is because the ratio is only measured on how square or rectangular a diamond is. There is a chart that describes the diamond ratio criteria and how it will affect the diamond’s beauty.

The diamond shape should reflect the person who wears it, and that is why you should take everything into consideration when choosing the perfect diamond shape. Hancocks Jewellers are happy to help you choose the correct diamond shape for your fine jewellery. At Hancocks Jewellers you know that each piece offered will have the best diamond shape created from the jewellery designers.
